Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Sébastien Auger of the Saint John Sea Dogs is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending September 30 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .960.
Auger made an impressive 97 saves on 101 shots last week backstopping the defending President Cup champion Sea Dogs to three straight wins to take over first place in the Maritimes Division. His three wins included a pair against the rival Moncton Wildcats beginning Wednesday night at home with 21 saves in the 4-2 win, followed by 42 saves in Moncton as second star of the 5-1 win on Sunday. His week also included a 3-1 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday night where he made 34 saves as first star of the game.
Auger, an 18-year-old from St-Augustin-de-Desmaures, QC, is playing in his second full QMJHL season with the Sea Dogs who selected him in the fifth round of the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 22 games last season earning 14 victories including two shutouts and is currently ranked second in the league with a .944 save percentage through five games.
Also considered for the award this week was Detroit Red Wings prospect Jake Paterson of the Saginaw Spirit who posted a 1-0-1-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.46 and save percentage of .955. In the WHL, Cam Lanigan of the Portland Winterhawks made 31 saves to earn a 1-0 shootout victory over the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night.
