SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs and Acadie-Bathurst Titan met for the third time in Thursday night’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. The Sea Dogs were defeated 3-0 by Bathurst with 2,892 fans present at Harbour Station.
Sebastien Auger stopped 42 of 45 in the loss as the Sea Dogs dropped to 16-18-0-0.
Alec Jon Banville, Zach O’Brien and Matthew Bissonette scored for the Titan while Jacob Brennan making XX stops on XX shots in the win. Bathurst climbed to 13-19-4-1.
After a first half of the first period that saw the Sea Dogs outshot 14-4 by the Titan, The Sea Dogs had some sustained pressure deep in the Bathurst zone. The play was started as Steven Anderson had a break in on Brennan and had a great second chance opportunity as well, but Brennan stood tall.
Shots were 18-8 for Bathurst at the end of the first.
Bathurst drew first blood with the man advantage at 9:16 as Banville beat Auger. O’Brien then made it 2-0 with a shorthanded marker at 11:16.
The second period ended with a 2-0 Bathurst lead as the shots were even at 11 apiece.
Auger stole the show in the third period, where it seemed like every save was a big save. He let in one goal by Bissonnette shortly before the halfway point of the third at 8:56, but the goal was a tip directly in front of the net. Auger was great during the Titan’s two-man advantage in the final six minutes of play.
Sea Dogs action continues tomorrow when the Halifax Mooseheads come to town for game two of the double-header. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station box office, online at tickets.harbourstation.ca or by calling 657-1234.
